Project 2010 Scalability and Performance

Significant changes were made in the 2007 release of Project Server that allowed for much greater scalability. Two of my customers are good examples: Intel has 25,000 users and HP has 40,000.

Further enhancements were made in Project Server 2010. Since that version has not been out a full year yet, we are not aware of any implementations that are quite that large. But Intel has already migrated 10,000 users to 2010, and will have 35,000 users on it by this summer.

Some details of scalability and architecture are in this document, with more details on this page. Developer details on this page.

Performance planning and recommendations can be found in this whitepaper, as well as plenty of additional information in the Project Server Technet pages.
  • Project 2010 Developer Reference. Developer or API references are extended documentation sets. They usually provide application programming interface (API) documentation, sample code, and other supporting information.
  • Project 2010 SDK Documentation. Software development kits (SDKs) or references are extended documentation sets. They usually provide application programming interface (API) documentation, sample code, and other supporting information.
  • Project Solutions. Visual Studio 2010 provides project templates that you can use to create application-level add-ins for Microsoft Office Project. You can use add-ins to automate Project, extend Project features, or customize the Project user interface (UI).
